Caltrain is a regional rail line that spans over 50 miles, linking San Francisco to San Jose (and extending further to Gilroy) with affordable and frequent rail transportation. It conveniently connects various cities and nearby attractions in San Mateo County, such as San Bruno, Burlingame, Redwood City, Menlo Park. Palo Alto, and Sunnyvale.

Established in 1863, the line has recently gone through an upgrade culminating in the debut of new electric powered equipment which began Sunday, August 10th.

Service is quite frequent, ranging half hourly service outside of rush hour to service 4 times per day hour during peak travel periods.

Many handsome historic train stations anchor the downtowns of the San Mateo County Communities. Upon arrival at the train station, one could easily walk to nearby attractions of the communities' business districts. Most station stops serve as transfer points to local bus service, too.
